We have several modalities that I use are in pediatric dentistry. So it’s mainly this age between when I’m sending a patient to an orthodontist for early consult or in the office treating maybe a patient that has a severe crowding. So we’re either doing space maintainers, we’re doing what’s called serial extraction, which maybe doesn’t sound like a great word to use, but it is a term where we’re taking a tooth here and there with over a period of time to manage space and so allow tooth to come in the right position.
Once we get to the last baby tooth, we gain some space back and so we’re using that’s preventative orthodontics. This is going to either sometimes prevent patients from needing braces later on or helping to decrease the amount of time that person is going to be in braces.
