So I do what I do because I love working with children. At first I had no idea that this is, I really wanted to do dentistry. I actually came, I’m from Jamaica, I came to the U.S. for school and I wanted to go to law school, that’s what I told myself.
But once I was here and I decided I wanted to do dentistry. Once I decided I wanted to go to dental school, I knew that I really, really wanted to work with children. And that was mainly going back, thinking over the years, growing up, having no dental, no dental exposure.
I’ve never actually seen in growing up a female dentist. The most rewarding thing for me is having a patient or a parent. And most times it’s the parents actually because the parents are so much more nervous sometimes than the kids.
So the most rewarding thing for me is at the end of the visit, somebody goes, oh my gosh, this was so much easier than I thought. I’m so, thank you so much. You made it so easy.
You made me so more relaxed. It’s very satisfying at the end of a visit to hear a parent. You know, I’ve had parents come in and like, you’re not going to be able to take x-ray.
We have tried so many places already. We never had x-rays taken and we’re able to do it. Yes, it may be a little challenging, but at the end of the patient is comfortable, x-rays are done, we can do a diagnosis, and it is satisfying at the end of a treatment that a patient is out of pain or just anxiety relief at that point.
I then did my pediatric program at Columbia, New York Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia University. After that, then I did a board certified with American Board of Pediatric Dentists. So I did, but I also do as far as continuing education goes, I also do additional stuff.
I want to keep learning. I also serve on the New York, the New Jersey State Board of Dentistry, which is a lot of responsibility, but also a really big learning curve as far as seeing, you know, what my colleagues are doing, what I shouldn’t be doing, and what is ethically and morally correct.

Her educational journey began at Queens College of the City University of New York, where she earned her undergraduate degree in biology. She then pursued her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) at Columbia University, graduating in 1997. She went on to specialize in pediatric dentistry, completing her diploma at Columbia University/New York-Presbyterian Hospital in 1999. She is now a guest lecturer at Middlesex County College. Board-certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Forbes is actively involved in her field as a member of:
- The American Association of Pediatric Dentists
- The American Dental Association
- The New Jersey Association of Pediatric Dentists
- The New Jersey State Board of Dentistry (where she currently serves)
- National Dental Board Examiner (CDCA-WREB-CITA)
Additionally, she is on the medical staff at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and serves as a clinical instructor in the department of dentistry. Her commitment to excellence in her profession has also earned her a lifetime membership in Omicron Kappa Upsilon, an honor society recognizing outstanding scholarship.
Outside the office, Dr. Forbes enjoys spending time with her husband, Carlenton, and their two sons, Michael and Gibson. An avid soccer fan, former soccer mom, and cheering on the Tottenham Hotspur! She also finds joy in reading and taking long walks.

We had a fantastic experience at the practice with our son. From the very first moment, we were warmly welcomed, and the kind and professional manner of the entire team immediately put us at ease.
The dentist takes plenty of time, explains everything in a child-friendly way, and has a calm and friendly demeanor that helps children feel comfortable. We were especially impressed by how compassionate the entire team is with their young patients. Every step is explained clearly, and the playful approach makes the treatment fly by. Our son had no fear at all and is already looking forward to his next visit – that speaks for itself!
